May 19, 2028 – Authorities in Columbus, Ohio last night launched a search for a 5-year-old boy who disappeared Sunday afternoon while on a holographic vacation with his family.
Nathaniel Smithson went missing about 3 p.m. Sunday while he and his parents, Douglas and Samantha Smithson, were relaxing in a Myrtle Beach, S.C. hologram at the Ohio Holo-Fun Park.
Police fear the boy may have wandered into the holographic ocean, and was accidentally lost in the matter conversion subsystem when his parents had park authorities turn off the hologram in a panicked attempt to look for him.
“In essence, the park operators may have accidentally caused his disappearance by hitting the off switch,” said Columbus police chief Sam Yoder.
All of the holo-rooms at the park remained shut down today. Police have called in hologram forensics experts to help recover the boy — hopefully in his original molecular structure.
“We’re doing our best to regenerate him with all his limbs and organs intact,” Yoder said. ”But we may only be partially successful, so the parents may have to accept that there son may come back without his intestines, or without his feet, or without his nose, or even without his head.”
