August 11, 2028 – Madonna has offered to drop her independent bid for the White House in exchange for being given a major role at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, FU has learned.
Convention organizers, who requested anonymity, said Madonna has proposed closing down her campaign if she is allowed to perform “Holiday” and other hits during the convention, to be held Aug. 25-28.
“Apparently, she feels she has some leverage,” one of the organizers said. “But the fact is that no one is taking her candidacy seriously, so her offer is kind of moot.”
Madonna had angrily announced her candidacy July 10, after Angelina Jolie, her longstanding rival for public attention, announced her own bid for the Democratic nomination. Madonna has openly resented Jolie’s ability to upstage her on publicity stunts such as international adoptions and affairs with married men.
Political observers say the Madonna campaign’s offer signals that the pop diva already realizes that she cannot muster enough support to outshine Jolie – or Republican candidate Sonny Jindal for that matter – as the race for the White House intensifies.
“She’s been trying for years to keep herself on the front page of tabloids and glossy gossip magazines, to no avail,” said FU political analyst Ima Fullavit. “A presidential campaign isn’t going to change that.”
In fact, convention organizers say allowing Madonna to appear at the convention could actually turn scandalous. They say they’re concerned about the lengths the singer might go to to show up Jolie’s acceptance speech, pointing to her past attention-grabbing performances. Those include her sexually charged rendition of “Like a Virgin” at the 1984 MTV Music Awards, her erotic kiss with Britney Spears at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, and another liplock with Sen. Hillary Clinton at the 2020 Kennedy Center Honors. Also making party leaders wary is Madonna’s appearance last year at the 2022 Grammy Awards, when she entered the stage on horse dressed (or undressed, rather) as Lady Godiva.
Madonna, who will celebrate her 70th birthday on Aug. 16 with a gala event in New York City, has reportedly agreed to keep her convention performance tasteful and her clothes on, although she made no promises about not wearing her underwear on the outside of her clothes.
